Multigame esports organization Team Liquid announced on Thursday that it has dropped its entire Heroes of the Storm division. The news comes two weeks after Team Liquid failed to qualify to the Heroes Global Championship (HGC) European Pro League Phase 1. Ivan Sportbilly Koturic, Daniel Shad González and Raoul GerdamHerd Saurbier have entered free agency. Christoph Cris Gowitzke, who was streaming under the Team Liquid brand, has joined HGC EU Phase 1 qualified team Diamond Skin.The HGC European Pro League is part of the new HGC program for 2017 as announced by Blizzard, the games developer. The year is structured around an online Pro League for each of four major regions with guaranteed financial support to participating players. There is also an Open Division to enable relegations, which opens the door for amateur squads and high-tier squads without organizations to join the league. Team Liquid entered all three of the online qualifiers in the European region from November 19 to December 1, but failed to make it past the round of 8, and was thus unable to secure one of six qualified spots in the main league.The organization vacates the Heroes of the Storm scene following on the footsteps of other major esports organizations, including Cloud9, Natus Vincere and G2 Esports. G2 Esports disbanded its HotS division this past January, and fellow European team NaVi followed in April citing performance reasons. In North America, Cloud9 dissolved its roster in June despite winning an HGC NA Regional Championship a few months prior. Panda Global and Tempo Storm also lost their rosters in the past six months, but they still have interest in the scene.There are still top brands and newcomers in HotS esports, however. Fnatic and Team Dignitas have established themselves as mainstays over the year, while Misfits acquired mYInsanitys roster this past August. Team Naventic started as an esports organization by acquiring bob ross fan club in February; it plans to expand to other esports as well.
