With her lucky dinosaur lunchbox in her bag, Bryony Page produced a stunning routine to become the first British athlete to win a trampolining medal at the Olympics.Britain had never had a representative in an Olympic final before so when Page and Kat Driscoll broke that barrier, it appeared to be job done. But Page, whose previous best result was fourth at the world championships in 2010, was not finished there and her score of 56.040 was only beaten by Canadas Rosannagh Maclennan. The 25-year-old from Wrenbury in Cheshire only qualified in seventh place and had to wait and watch while a succession of more fancied athletes failed to surpass her.Page said: My target was to go out there and do my best and thats what I did in the final. Im just so happy about that.I wanted to get into a final and I knew I could do that because thats where I qualified a place for the country at a world championships where I finished fifth.Just getting into the Olympic final, going out the back and doing our warm-up, I was like, Im an Olympic finalist! After my performance I was just so happy because that was the best I could have done on that day, and then finding out Id got a medal, I couldnt hold my legs up, I collapsed and I was crying my eyes out. Then when I found out I got the silver I was just so shell-shocked, its just absolutely incredible.Page has been training full-time for a year after achieving a first-class degree in biology from Sheffield University. It is fair to say not many of her rivals will have split their time between bouncing and twisting on a trampoline and studying dinosaurs.I did my dissertation on dinosaurs and what sounds they made or what we think they made, she said.Ive got my dinosaur lunchbox that my little brother got me. Its a little good luck charm. What did Page make, therefore, of recent research indicating dinosaurs made bird-like noises? That disappointed me but they probably didnt have the vocal cords to be able to roar like they do in the movies, she added, before laughing.Clearly she had never expected to be discussing such matters with an Olympic silver medal hanging round her neck.Pages love affair with trampolining began in her back garden before her parents Sarah and Steve, who were in the stands at the Rio Olympic Arena, took her to the local gymnastics club at the age of nine.To the untrained eye it appears a terrifying sport, and Page said: You have to be a bit courageous or crazy to go up 10 metres in the air.The forces that you go through, you get the same G-forces as a Formula One driver or an astronaut. When you hit the trampoline you hit it with 10 times your bodyweight so you have to go through the conditioning and everything. But in a controlled environment I dont feel scared, Ive done these skills over and over. I love that feeling of spinning around in the air.I just absolutely love sport and I love trampolining so Ill continue as long as I can, Ill be there as an old lady with a walking stick, Ill be on a trampoline and coaching and getting people involved and hopefully inspiring them.World champion Dan Li of China sealed the final podium place with 55.885 while Driscoll finished sixth. The 30-year-old, who just missed out on the final in London four years ago, was left with mixed emotions. She said: Coming in the big aim was to make a final -- we have never had a British woman do that before. So to have two of us do it is amazing. But I am disappointed because I felt like my routine was a lot better in the final than it was in the prelims but it didnt really score much different. We are the little sport that no-one really knows about, we get a bit lost in the bigger sports, so its great that we got a medal. With Parker having a quiet game for once, Nicolas Batum and Boris Diaw provided the scoring as France won its first major basketball title by beating Lithuania 80-66 on Sunday. It was a victory that ended a decade of frustration for Parker and a talented French generation, which lost the final against Spain two years ago and took bronze in 2005. Frank Thomas Jersey .Y. -- Leading 3-0 with only 11:25 left, the Colorado Avalanche committed a seemingly meaningless penalty to give the New York Islanders a power play. Robin Ventura Jersey . The team says the Spain international has a muscle pull in his right leg. Barcelona hosts third-division side Cartagena in the return leg of their round-of-32 tie after winning their first meeting 4-1. Two days ago, New Zealand celebrated victory in the second Test against Pakistan in Hamilton, a win that meant a 2-0 triumph in the series. At least, they celebrated inasmuch as they could: the next day eight of their Test XI were flying to Australia to defend the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. Australias players thought they had a quick format switch after the Adelaide Test, but New Zealand are two days and one international flight worse off.New Zealand also arrive with no Ross Taylor, who is recovering from eye surgery. They have no Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, or Corey Anderson, who are all out injured. Surprisingly, they have no Ish Sodhi, the legspinner who only once has faced Australia in an ODI earlier this year, and was Man of the Match, yet has been left out now. And of course, there is no Brendon McCullum, Daniel Vettori, Grant Elliott, Nathan McCullum, or Kyle Mills, all retired since the World Cup.We are missing some key players, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said in Sydney on Thursday. Weve lost over 1000 one-day international games since the World Cup. To replace those is a challenge. But weve also got some exciting players that you guys wont know a lot about. Hopefully you will in a week or 10 days. Thats important for us to give them this sort of exposure, and find out which ones we want to keep backing and supporting.Among the new faces are legspinner Todd Astle, preferred in this series to Sodhi, and yet to make his ODI debut. Then there is Colin de Grandhomme, the seam bowler, who made a stunning Test debut against Pakistan last month but has only one ODI to his name, nearly five years ago. And then there is the 25-year-old fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, uncapped for New Zealand in any format, but a man who at his best can break the 150kph mark. With Adam Milne missing, Lockie gives us that point of difference in our attack, Hesson said. He hasnt played a huge amount up until that last two seasons. Hes got over a lot of injuries. Hes got to an age where those major issues tend to dissipate a bit, once you get to 24, 25. Hes a strong bowler, hes certainly quick. Id be very surprised if hee doesnt play at some point in this series.ddddddddddddes like Adam Milne, theyve both bowled over 150 at times ... Lockie is at the early stage of his career, but we know that hes capable of bowling at pace at times. Its difficult, your first series theres obviously going to be some nerves. But hes a confident character. When he gets his opportunity, Im sure hell give us a point of difference in our attack, which is important. Not that Australias ODI side is without change. Batting allrounder Hilton Cartwright is hoping for a debut in this series, and Australias leading ODI wicket taker in 2016 - John Hastings - has been left out due to the return of frontline fast men Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc. And, like New Zealand, Australia have lost much ODI experience since the teams met in the 2015 World Cup final, with Michael Clarke, Mitchell Johnson, Brad Haddin and Shane Watson all retired.Since then, the teams have met once in a Chappell-Hadlee Series, when New Zealand won 2-1 at home earlier this year. And despite Australias 5-0 thrashing in a one-day series in South Africa in October, when they took an under-strength attack and rested Starc and Hazlewood, they will enter this series as No.1 in the world, as compared to New Zealand at No.3.Their one-day side is a heck of a lot more settled than their Test side, Hesson said of Australia. Their one-day side has been incredibly consistent, bar the South African series theyve been very good for a number of years. Currently ranked No.1 in the world, so I dont think the unsettled nature of the Test side will lead into the one-day side.We want to hang on to the Chappell-Hadlee. Weve won it the last couple of times and its really important for us. Australia are our big brothers and to win a bilateral series against them is important to us. If the byproduct of that is an increase in rankings then great. But we tend to look at the rankings at the back end of a season and see how youve gone, rather than it be a motivation for us.
